Over winter break, the CDO was busy reaching out to the Houston legal community to continue finding and developing networking opportunities for UHLC students.
It's no secret that the legal market is tough and it is no longer enough to just be a good law student. Some of our students have had great success making connections, building relationships, and securing jobs through their networking efforts. In the past, we have always encouraged our students to become involved with different Houston-area legal associations. This year, to more effectively support our student's efforts to engage with the broader legal community, we will be collecting information regarding networking events, CLE's, and monthly meetings and gathering that information in one easy to find location, the CDO Events Calendar.
We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from organizations! The vast majority of organizations are extremely enthusiastic and excited about increased law student involvement. Keep your eyes on the Calendar for networking events hosted by organizations such as the Houston Bar Association, Association of Women Attorneys, Energy Bar Association, among several others. Although not a comprehensive calendar, it is a great place to stay tuned to not only what is happening in the CDO, but the greater Houston legal community as well.
For students who are unsure about how to network or who feel uncomfortable networking, two great opportunities to learn and practice how to network are the Association of Women Attorneys Networking Boot Camp on February 25 (open to men and women) and/or the Passport to Success Networking Event on February 22 (open to all UHLC students). More details on both events can be found on the CDO Events Calendar.
Calendar tip: If you use a Google Calendar to stay organized, you can now add the CDO Events Calendar to your Google Calendar. Go to "Other Calendars," select "Add by URL," and paste add the following URL: http://www.calendarwiz.com/CalendarWiz_iCal.php?crd=eventscalendar (this adds ALL CDO events to your google calendar)
