Since 1999, TAJF
has provided funding for Equal Justice Works Fellowships at TAJF grantee
sites. We recently learned that Equal Justice Works’ applicant pool for the 2014-16 Class has very few applicants
with TAJF grantees as the host organization. Additionally, all current
applicants are clustered in one part of the state. While TAJF has made no
decision regarding any current applicant, it is rare that we fund multiple
fellows in a city. [Read: They are
looking for projects focusing on communities outside of Houston].
Equal Justice Works is re-opening the
competition exclusively for TAJF grantees, and we strongly encourage you to consider applying. The new
deadline for Fellowship applications is December 1, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. You
can find more information on the program and the application below.
If you would like
to see the types of projects that TAJF-funded EJW fellows have undertaken in
the past, please take a look at TAJF EJW Fellows Booklet. If you would like to speak with
TAJF staff about the project, contact Lisa Melton at LDMelton@teajf.org or (512) 320-0099, ext. 330.
Each year the
Equal Justice Works fellowship competition selects qualified and passionate
lawyers who have developed new and innovative legal projects that can impact
lives and serve communities in desperate need of legal assistance. Depending
on funding, Equal Justice Works is able to provide between 45-55 two-year
fellowships annually. Fellows receive a competitive salary, generous loan
repayment assistance, connections to their prominent sponsors, participation in
trainings, and additional support during their two-year tenure.
