The First District Court of Appeals of Texas - Meet and Greet

From Professor Simpson:
The First District Court of Appeals of Texas will hold oral arguments in the Law Center’s Krost Hall auditorium on Tuesday, March 5, at 12:30 p.m.  The arguments will be held before a panel consisting of the Honorable Terry Jennings, the Honorable Jane Bland, and the Honorable Michael Massengale.  The following cases will be heard at the Law Center on March 5:
·        Gary Jones, et al., Appellants v. Pesak Brothers Construction, Inc., Appellee, No. 01-12-00535-CV
·        Charles Saden, et al., Appellants v. Brian Smith, et al., Appellees, No. 01-11-00202-CV

Information on cases filed in the Court may be accessed on the Court’s website: http://www.search.txcourts.gov/CaseSearch.aspx?coa=coa01

During the Arguments:
Please note that courtroom decorum must be observed in Krost Hall during oral arguments. The following items are not allowed in the courtroom: backpacks; recording or broadcasting devices; cameras, including those contained in computers and other electronic devices; food or drink; hats; gum-chewing; or laptops/iPads, etc. Phones must be turned off.  Each case will have 40 minutes total of oral argument.  Students and the general public may enter and exit Krost Hall between the 40-minute argument sessions, but not while arguments are in progress.  Students are advised to arrive early so that they may find seating before arguments begin.

After the Arguments: “Meet-and-Greet” with the Justices, for Law Center Students:
University of Houston Law Center students are invited to attend a short meet-and-greet with the Justices, to be held in the Krost Hall auditorium foyer at approximately 2:00 p.m., immediately after the oral arguments.  The meet-and-greet will afford Law Center students an excellent opportunity to interact with the Justices, although students may not ask specific questions about the cases that have argued.  Students who plan to attend the meet-and-greet should dress appropriately.

Students are strongly encouraged to attend both the arguments and the post-argument meet-and-greet with the Justices.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students to observe real-life appellate arguments and to meet appellate justices.  Please join us on March 5 in welcoming the First Court of Appeals to the Law Center.
