Initiative: Getting the Job

The
Passport to Success Diversity Initiative: Getting the Job will focus on legal
employers' insider's tips on: resume/cover letter enhancement, interviewing and
networking. Attorneys and successful UHLC upperclassmen will provide invaluable
insight into the do's and don'ts of maximizing opportunities to land the legal
job of your dreams. Following the panels, students will have the opportunity to
practice the networking skills learned by interacting with attorneys in a
"cocktail party" setting. Attorneys will provide feedback to students
to give them real tips on how to improve these skills. Participating students
present for the entire program will be eligible for prizes at the end of the
program.
Students
who were not able to RSVP by the February 19th deadline are still encouraged to
attend although lunch cannot be guarnateed. Students may attend all or part of
the program, but must attend the entire program to be eligible for prizes. For

Small
& Midsize Firm Week is a week-long series of career panels discussing the
advantages and challenges of working at small and midsize firms (50 or fewer
attorneys). The week culminates in the Small & Midsize Firm Open House,
Friday, February 28, 2014, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm, where local employers have the opportunity
to share information about their firms, and, where available, opportunities for
the upcoming summer, academic year or permanent positions. Monday through
Thursday panels are open to ALL students. RSVP through the Events tab in
Symplicity to be guaranteed a lunch. Friday's Open House is open to 2Ls and 3Ls
only and no advanced registration is required. For more information on program

Cougar Coffee Chats

The
Career Development Office is hosting Cougar Coffee Chats with Leandro Vargas,
Jr., Director of Land and Staff Attorney at Treadstone Energy Partners on
Saturday, March 1st from 9 am - noon. This great program connects part-time
students with alumni of the part-time program. Each counseling session will
last 30 minutes and will give you the opportunity to ask questions about the
alum's career path and to seek advice for your own professional development.

The
UHLC Career Development Office is preparing the 2014 UHLC IP Resume Book. Three
separate resume books will be emailed out to IP employers of various sizes, if
a minimum of 10 students are interested in each: Houston area, Eastern District
of Texas, and nationwide. You can submit your resume for each on February 24
through March 7.
If
you would like to participate in this opportunity, please follow these steps:
1. As soon as possible, upload your resume into Symplicity.
2. Starting February 24, under the Documents Tab, choose the "Opt-In Resume Book."
3. Choose the "Select Resume Books" button under your resume.
4. Check the resume books in which you want to be included and click "submit."

Loyola University Chicago School of
Law Patent Law Interview Program (PLIP)

The
Patent Law Interview Program will be held on Thursday, July 31 and Friday,
August 1 in Chicago, Illinois. This is a nationwide interview program that
targets patent law employers, rising 2L and 3L students, and students in
Intellectual Property LLM programs. Students submit resumes and transcripts to
bid on interviews with the employers they are interested in and employers
select the students they wish to interview at the program. Students with
degrees in engineering or a technical science should consider registering for
the program. You do not need to be patent bar eligible to register, although
the vast majority of employers participating in the program are seeking patent
bar eligible students.

year, Winstead awards three $20,000 scholarships to ethnically diverse
first-year law students - to a student at The University of Texas School of
Law, the University of Houston Law Center, and the Southern Methodist
University Dedman School of Law. In addition to a cash award, each Scholarship
recipient will be offered a position in the Firm's 2015 Winstead Summer

Reed Smith Diverse Scholars Program

Diverse Scholars Program provides two $15,000 awards toward tuition for the
second year of law school, as well as a paid summer associate position after
completion of the second year of law school. The program is open to first-year
