Accepting/Declining Offers
A message from Yvonne Ho, attorney at Bracewell & Giuliani and co-chair of the HBA MOILP Committee:
At this stage of the Program, employers are nearing the end of the process of extending offers to students. How you handle this process is just as important to making a strong professional impression as how you conducted yourself during interviews. And even if you do not ultimately accept a particular offer, the impression you leave with that prospective employer will follow you in the future. Here are a few tips along those lines:
(1) If you accept an offer with one employer, immediately notify any other potential employers who've interviewed you.
(2) Even if you decline an offer, convey your appreciation to that prospective employer. The process is time-consuming for employers, and your gratitude for receiving the opportunity will be remembered.
(3) In all your communications, realize that prospective employers are judging you. The impression you leave with that employer will not be forgotten, and it's a very small legal community.
